Winter Skincare Review

I've never really been religiously into skincare routines because I'm extremely lazy and normally just use no7 cleanser, toner and exfoliator everyday. However as winter moved in my skin started becoming disgustingly dry and flaky which absolutely horrified me so I finally decided to invest a bit more money into my skincare products. I thought I may as well review them (It's my only day off for the next 2 weeks so I had to act quick).

(Excuse the out of focus photo, me and my DSLR aren't getting on at the moment)

I'll start with my favourite products first which are the la roche-posay effaclar products (duo and purifying foaming gel) as they have done absolute wonders with getting rid of my many scars left after blemishes have plagued my face. They're reasonably priced at £13 (duo) and £10 (gel) considering how much you get and just how great they really are, and they're on offer at 2 for £15 at boots!!!. I've only been using them for a week and my skin is so much clearer so I'd definitely be repurchasing!. There is however a major downside, and that is the fact that these actually dry out your skin which means I have to exfoliate everyday before putting on make up otherwise my skin is flaky which just looks vile. If you're willing to moisturise like mad and you're desperate for blemish free skin asap then I'd definitely recommend these!.

Next are my Weleda Products. Both priced at £9.95 for the cleanser and toner however you can get an "all in 1" for £12.95 in the same range!. I've been using these for the past 3 months since I received a sample of them in my glossybox (valentines box). They are as good as a cleanser and toner could get really. I don't see a massive difference in low end and high end versions of cleansers as they all pretty much do the same job. However toners are notorious for drying out skin which isn't great during the cold winter months. This particular toner does a fabulous job of just cleaning away all the excess make up and leaving you with a tightened skin feeling (which I know a lot of people are keen on) but it makes me feel like it's actually doing something and leaves me feeling fresh before I sleep.

I used to just wear nivea soft moisturiser for my skin at night because it's really thick, however i've recently come to realise just how much that clogs up my pores and therefore causes more problems than it solves. So my Mum bought me a mini no7 skincare set for Christmas (which coincidently I also bought her) and the only products I'm really bothered with are the beautiful skin night and day cream. However if i'm honest these moisturisers do absolutely nothing for my skin and I'm really annoyed that they've changed their skincare brand to "beautiful skin" because I find the products just aren't as good as the old brand. I can also safely say their essential moisture day fluid is one million times better!. So I definitely won't be repurchasing any of these!.

Finally is the frequently talked about daily microfoliant by Dermalogica. The thing I like about it is how its a powder that instantly turns into an exfoliant when mixed with water. However there is no way this is worth the £38 price tag it's given for a 75g tub. It's good, but it deserves more of a £10 price as it's not exactly amazing. It leaves the skin feeling really soft and smooth but just makes my blemishes redder also made my skin break out which isn't exactly what you're going for when you invest this much money in a product. Luckily for me I tried it when I got it in my November Glossybox before taking "the plunge" as I would of been so utterly disappointed!.

What skincare products would you say are your best or even worst?

  1. I've been using effclar duo for a few weeks now and am loving it so far. My skin has been awful recently and this has really helped. Thanks for commenting on my blog :) I've answered about 8 hour cream over on it for you. I love yours, the first post was great I can't believe I'm yet to try a Nars product. Laguna bronzer is first on my list!

  2. Aw thank you Chloe!. The feedback is much appreciated!, I love your blog!. Effaclar duo has cleared my skin up completely!, it works absolute wonders. And nars powder products (blush/bronzers) are the best out there in my opinion. Nothing comes close in comparison! Xx
